Are Diet Pills Safe for Weight Loss Over 55 Years Old?
Weight loss over 55 years old is an entirely new ballgame. When I was in my teens and 20s, I could decide that I needed to lose a couple of pounds before the weekend, and after a few dumb days of starving myself, I’d achieve my goal. I’d gain it back, of course, but I wasn’t worried because it was so simple to drop it whenever I wanted to.
Weight Loss Over 55 Years Old is Not the Same as it Was in My 20s
A few decades later, with an older body and with menopause behind me, weight loss over 55 years old feels very different. Muscle growth takes longer, weight packs on a lot faster, and it doesn’t burn off nearly as fast as it once did. This doesn’t mean that it’s impossible, but it does mean that I’ve occasionally found myself looking to see if there are diet pills meant for my particular age group.
The one thing I have discovered is that once you’re into your late 60s and beyond, diet pills aren’t typically the most recommended weight loss strategy out there. However, for those of us who are in this unique “not old but definitely not young anymore” age group, the situation is different.
Finding the Right Supplements for Dieting Support
The main concern I wanted to address by using diet pills was a slowed metabolism and a reduced exercise performance. Everything just seems slower, from my run to my metabolic rate. I know it’s possible to speed them up and if I can fast track that process, I certainly won’t complain.
After a lot of time on the internet, I felt like I’d read enough to make a call to my doctor. One telehealth appointment later, I feel that I got some good advice, and I know what sort of thing I’m looking for in weight management support.
Making Careful Diet Pill Choices
When all is said and done, there’s only one FDA-approved non-prescription diet pill. When my doctor told me that, I thought I’d easily found the one solution to my challenges for weight loss over 55 years old.
Then I found out it was a fat blocker and that it was probably not for me. Not only did it not address the challenges I mentioned above, but it works by stopping your body from absorbing some of the fat that you eat. That doesn’t just magically disappear. It heads out of you with the rest of your morning BMs. If you eat too much of it, you end up with a lot of side effects like gas, diarrhea, intestinal cramping and others that I’m just not up for.
Since the rest of the diet pills on the market aren’t regulated by the FDA, I found out that you shouldn’t just blindly believe claims made about the products. I was directed to a US FTC page about the claims that should never be believed. That rapidly helps to rule out a lot of the products I’ve seen, but it did leave some behind.
Fortunately, I’ve found a couple that have clinically researched ingredients, that are manufactured in a facility here in the US, they’re sold by an American company, that don’t make outlandish promises, and that have benefits that align with what I’m looking for. I’ve narrowed my search down to 2. I’m reading a bit more and I might call my doctor again. When I make my final decision, I’ll be sure to review what I’ve tried. Until then, I thought it was good to know that yes, there are diet pills that can help with weight loss over 55 years old, as long as you take care with your selection.
