New Method Helps Newborns Sleep Through the Night
The best feeling in the world is when you bring your little bundle of joy home from the hospital. But the most difficult aspect of parenthood is staying up at night to take care of the baby. This is because newborns have an inconsistent sleep schedule and may wake up at any time to be fed. Most new parents do not get more than four to five hours of sleep a night. This affects their lives as they get stressed and tired, making them feel and look older than they really are. Most parents try various methods of making sure that their newborns sleep through the night, but these methods do not always work.
Considering the issues that new parents face in keeping the baby asleep through the night, Dr. Lewis and Dr. Jonathan devised a method that would help parents get the rest they need. It basically helps newborn children sleep through the night. The idea behind this method is to help the baby adapt to your sleep and meal schedule. This way, the baby will sleep throughout the night without feeling hungry. If the baby does not need to be fed at night, parents can easily get six to seven hours of sleep. This will help them wake up fresh and relaxed.
This method involves plotting out the meal times of newborn babies. As a parent, you will need to feed your baby every four hours. Feeding the baby every four hours during the day will allow the little one to sleep comfortably through the night. This method therefore eliminates the need to feed the baby in the middle of the night.
Most parents feed the baby only when it feels hungry, but this method results in the baby getting up at inconvenient times. This is why you should devise a schedule and train the baby’s receptors for a feeding schedule. The baby will therefore be fed in accordance with a schedule, which helps newborns sleep through the night, and will also get proper nutrition.
The challenge arises when the baby cannot go four hours between each feed. If this is the case with your baby, you simply need to stretch the time gradually. Increase the gap between feeding times by 15 minutes each day. Eventually, the feeding time of your baby will get close to four hours.
Do keep in mind that stretching out the feeding time is not easy. You will need to distract the baby by taking him or her for walks. This will calm the baby down and allow you to adjust the feeding times. This method should not take more than two weeks, however. If the time-stretching technique does not work for your baby, be sure to consult a doctor. In most cases, though, this technique helps newborns sleep through the night. This is great news for parents that want to get back to feeling young and refreshed once again.
